CARDIAC SURGERY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The adult advanced cardiac surgery fellowship program centers on instruction and training in the necessary specialized surgical skills required for treating patients with cardiovascular system diseases.

Prior to fellowship, candidates must have completed a two-year cardiothoracic surgery residency. Learning objectives of the cardiac surgery fellowship program include:

  • Mastering surgical techniques for the entire spectrum of acquired cardiovascular diseases, such as:
    • Coronary bypass grafting
    • Valve repair and replacement
    • Treatment of pericardial disease
    • Extensive use of arterial conduit
    • Minimally invasive endoscopic techniques for conduit harvesting and revascularization
  • Mastering full responsibility for surgical planning, including:
    • Assimilation of pre-operative assessment
    • Invasive studies
  • Mastering full responsibility for performing the surgical procedure
  • Competently assessing the indications for cardiovascular surgery based on available scientific evidence
  • Effective management and operation of an outpatient cardiac surgery clinic with nursing practitioners
  • Mastering principles of cardiopulmonary bypass, including running the pump

INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The objectives of our subspecialty interventional fellowship program are to provide candidates with skills and knowledge in the theoretical and practical aspects of Percutaneous Translumi al Coronary Angioplasty, including coronary stent implantation, rotational and directional atherectomy and balloon valvuloplasty.

CONTENT

  • Understand the theoretical aspects of the procedure and its indications.
  • Review its indications and pre-procedural management by assessing patients before the procedure.
  • Obtain practical and technical competency in the procedure by the end of the program.
  • Be responsible for the post-procedural review and assist in the care of the patient after the procedure.
  • Be responsible for data entry and records of the patients.
  • Participate in research projects involving these patients.

Required Qualification:

  1. BSN required

 Required Qualification:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or Health Sciences other related field required; Master’s Degree preferred. Clinical experience preferred.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the accurate performance of tests; use of controls to ensure the accuracy of test results, and the exercise of judgment in the case of questionable or abnormal results. The function of the successful candidates includes the following:

  • Perform work with the highest standards of accuracy and precision. Recognize, correct, communicate and document errors when they occur.
  • Understand the scientific basis of each test. Use knowledge to make critical judgments regarding the acceptability of test results.
  • Enter results and data into computer systems and perform appropriate checks to minimize clerical errors. Recognize, confirm, report and document critical, abnormal or unusual results.
  • Maintain competency in all tests performed in the clinical diagnosis laboratory and perform these tests as assigned.

Job description/Responsibilities:  Performs Diagnostic Radiographic, CAT Scan, Invasive & Interventional Radiological Procedures, Mammography, Bone Density, Ultra Sound or Special Procedures according to department protocols. Functions as the first line interface with customers and are successful in the accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in PI/ QC activities. Assists in maintaining Performance Improvement Program.  Promotes teamwork and good customer service. Responsible for Processing and transmission of Images to PACS.

 Required Qualification:

  1. A graduate of an approved training program.
  2. Must be a registered and certified Radiographer in any of these places: Nigeria, Europe, North America or Indian.
  3. One year of Acute Clinical Radiography desired.
  4. One year in Second Modality is required. Advanced Certification may be substituted.
  5. Mammography experience strongly preferred

An experienced Sonographer is required in the above location. He or she must be ready to work under limited supervision but the direction of the radiologist, the Ultrasound Technologist completes sonography procedures including routine sonograms as well as interventional biopsies using ultrasound. Sonographers participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement activities. He or She works within the guidelines established in the policies and procedure manual and complies with all safety and infection control guidelines.

 

Required Qualification:

  • Graduate from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology and or School of Sonography.
  • Two-year program or four-year BA program in Radiology Technology followed by training in sonography or completion of requirements from an accredited school in sonography including meeting all clinical requirements.
  • Current registration/licensure/certification in good standing.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Minimum of two-years hospital department experience in medical sonography to include biopsies.
  • Administrative Skills: Able to accurately complete sonography examinations as ordered by referring physicians.
  • Experience with radiology information systems to obtain previous examination reports.
  • Equipment/Machine Skills: Able to correctly and safely operate sonographic equipment and perform invasive procedures following orientation period to the department. Routine use of office equipment (phone, fax, pagers).
  • Other Skills: Able to communicate effectively with all patients, physicians, nurses and other medical personnel.  Able to handle periods of intensity with calm.  Able to work in stressful situations while maintaining composure and perform required sonographic duties regardless of the patient’s condition.

adult and pediatric electrocardiograms; monitor cardiac status during all types of stress testing, both treadmill and chemical induced; perform 24 and 48 hours Holter monitors; ambulatory blood pressure monitors; pulmonary function studies, resting and exercise oximetry; breathing treatments, pediatric and adult patients, and responds to Code Blue and emergency situations. The ideal candidate must remain current in knowledge required to perform the assigned duties, observe all clinic guidelines and policies.
